Learn about SPF – Don’t Burn Your Skin This Summer.

Protect Your Skin From Sunburn with the Proper SPF Sun Treatment.
Skin Cancer is highly preventable and unfortunately, not prevented often enough. Daily use of proper sunscreen products will reduce your chances of developing skin cancer. Always select a sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher, that blocks damaging sunrays, is simply to apply so that you ‘use it’ daily. A good sunscreen should be broad-spectrum – protecting your skin from UVB and UVA rays.
SPF seems to confound many – it means the ‘sun protection factor’ and compares the time needed to produce sunburn on protected skin verses the time to cause sunburn on unprotected skin. SPF protection does not increase proportionally with the SPF Rating. Here is an example:
- SPF 15 = Screens out 93% of Sunburn damage.
- SPF 30 = Screens out 97%…
- SPF 70 = Screens out only 98.6%…
I recommend a lip balm with SPF 15 and a Sunscreen of 15 to 30 SPF. You can use a tinted lip balm under a gloss if you’d like in the summer (instead of lipstick and gloss).
Be aware that water resistant sunscreen’s need to be reapplied every 40 minutes and even Mary Kay’s SPF 30 Sunscreen (very water resistant) should be applied every 80 minutes while in the water.
Typically, use 1 oz of sunscreen to protect your body. So think in terms of a 12 Oz. sunscreen for 12 applications. Be sure to apply sunscreen to all exposed areas and pay special attention to your face, ears, hands, and arms.
PS – I would love your feedback and comments. What do you do to protect your skin? Other ideas? I use Mary Kay’s SPF 30 – waterproof and tinted lip balms; however, there are a multitude of great solutions.

A Report from Mr. Blitzen …Your Fast Friend
Mom and I have been travelling in Carmel, Pacific Grove, and Monterey a lot this month. I am becoming quite the critic of facials and skin care classes. I often snap my teeth together – repeatedly – in the middle of class to get everyone’s attention – it works like a charm! In addition, when mom shows the dessert after the makeover (perfumes), I sometimes launch some of my own creative scents – some clients do not like this.
We celebrated my birthday while ‘dog sitting’ my cousins in Pacific Grove (Uno the Rat Terrier and Dos the Chihuahua). Mom was fed up with Dos’s pee pee problem and bought her a doggy diaper – really, some breeds! We had doggy cookies and ice cream with Cody, my fellow CHOMP Therapy friend and ran around the house while grandma and grandpa were on vacation – they had no idea…unfortunately though, some photographs were taken that could arrive any day now!
Mom does not know that when she has the nerve to take a lunch break without me, I run Pink MBA Studios myself and offer free doggy makeovers – that’s right – FREE. We have a howl of a time, but I don’t always get much notice! Dad takes me to the beach a few times a week too – it is nice to take a break from my rigorous Mary Kay Career! When mom goes to Dallas to Mary Kay Headquarters, I will be in charge of the makeup studio – so lookout!
Gotta go – heard the “B” word – and human’s think we cannot spell BEACH! You can email me through mom’s website at www.PinkMBA.com featuring Mary Kay Products or call me on the phone to set up an appt for a makeover – I will know it’s just to visit with me!
Leans (Hugs),
